News » Morcambe and Morgan Windfarm - Letter of Represenation

The government’s Planning Inspectorate is currently examining the Morecambe & Morgan applications for 2 offshore wind farms which will generate 2GW of electricity and feed into the national grid at Penwortham. Whilst we are supportive of green energy, the proposed connection requires two huge substations on greenbelt land between Kirkham, Newton and Freckleton and a 20 mile cable corridor wider than the M55 stretching from the beaches of St Annes to the rural fields surrounding our parish and onwards towards Penwortham. The substations covering over 55 acres are some 15m high, with even higher lighting arrays, and will have a significant visual impact on the surrounding area - effectively industrialising our rural setting. During the many years of construction there will be much disruption including increased heavy goods traffic, noise and dust affecting homes, businesses and local schools. In total this development will destroy more than 600 acres of greenbelt land, farmland and natural habitat. An alternative approach utilising an existing Enterprise Zone has not been considered in this scheme. If you have an opinion on this we would encourage you to register with the Planning Inspectorate via this link: https://national-infrastructure-consenting.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/projects/EN020032/register/register-have-your-say The deadline for registration is 27th January 2025 only 4 days away. Newton with Clifton Parish Council have joined forces with other local towns and parishes, Fylde Borough Councillors, the Newton Residents Association and the Hornbies Trust to engage the support of a leading law firm to ensure we have the best opportunity to influence the outcome. A letter of representation has been created [link to Letter]. We are also working with Fylde Against Cable Transmission and Substations - FACTS group to help disseminate this letter. You are free to use any or all of this document in your registration and/or add other points of your own.
