Speed Indicator Device (SpID) Consultation 22 July, 2024 | |
Newton with Clifton Parish Council are investing in community Speed Indicator Devices (SpIDs) which will be installed with the help of Lancashire County Council in two locations within the Parish. A SpID is not a speed camera: its purpose is to alert approaching drivers, motor cyclists and cyclists to their speed in order to remind them of their speed and, if they are exceeding the speed limit, advising them to slow down and remain within the speed limit. It also provides valuable data such as traffic volumes, average speeds and maximum speeds; although it does not identify individual vehicles or record vehicle registration numbers. The data will be shared with Lancashire Road Safety partnership to evidence perceived speed issues in the parish and assist in determining whether interventions are required. The Scheme It is known locally that a relatively high proportion of vehicles exceed the speed limit in both locations. By positioning equipment in these locations, it is hoped to informally influence drivers’ compliance with prevailing 20mph speed limits and calm traffic near the two village parks/playgrounds.
Before making a final decision, Parish Council members considered it appropriate to consult with parishioners who accordingly are invited to use their preferred method of response before the 5th August from the following; i. Email: nwcpc@btinternet.com. ii. Post. "Dowry House", St. Marys road, Bamber Bridge, Preston, Lancashire PR5 6TE iii.
